New details have emerged from the fatal accident at LaGuardia Airport in New York, where an Air Canada Express plane collided with a fire truck on the runway during landing, killing the pilot and co-pilot.
According to audio communications from the air traffic control tower, published by international media, the first moments of the emergency show intense efforts to avoid a collision. In one of the calls, the repeated command "Stop, stop, stop" is heard, while the collision of the plane with the vehicle on the ground is then confirmed.
Air traffic controllers immediately asked the plane to hold and informed them that emergency crews were on their way. In parallel, the runway was closed and the airport temporarily suspended operations.
Communications also include reactions from pilots of other aircraft in the area, who describe the situation as severe, as controllers try to manage air traffic in busy conditions.
Authorities confirmed that there were 76 people on board the plane. The crash occurred during landing and led to a large-scale emergency operation at the airport.
Investigations have begun to determine the exact causes of the accident. The release of communications from the control tower is expected to help reconstruct the crucial minutes before the crash.
