One person has lost his life from storm Ciaran in France, while 1.2 million families have been left without electricity, said the Minister of Energy, Agnes Panier-Rinasse.
Some areas of Britain and Normandy have been put on red alert for strong winds, while the rest of northwestern France is on orange alert, officials said.
In Brittany's Finistère region, where winds of up to 207 km/h were recorded in Pointe-du-Raz, two people were slightly injured and traffic was blocked until further notice, prefect Alain Espinas told RTL radio station.
Transport Minister Clement Bonn told Franceinfo radio that a truck driver died in the Ain area, northeast of Paris, when a tree fell on his truck, US magazine Barrons reports.
"This shows that, even in regions that are not on red alert, there is a very high risk on the roads," said Bohn.
