SYRIZA in political collapse, Tsipras' return disturbs the Greek left
Alexis Tsipras

The return of Alexis Tsipras is once again roiling the Greek left, while SYRIZA is sinking into a new internal crisis following the expulsion of Pavlos Polakis. The debate over the creation of a new party by the former prime minister has exposed divisions, rivalries and fears of the dissolution of the party that once ruled Greece.

The Greek SYRIZA is once again plunging into a deep internal crisis, confirming that the departure of Alexis Tsipras did not bring stability, but a series of ongoing clashes that are leading the Greek party towards political fragmentation.

The sensational expulsion of MP Pavlos Polakis from the SYRIZA parliamentary group by current leader Sokratis Famellos has opened another bitter front within the party, at a time when the Greek left is facing declining influence and confusion over its political future.

The crisis erupted after statements by former official Dimitris Hatzisokratis, who publicly suggested suspending the functioning of SYRIZA and integrating it into a new party that could be created by Alexis Tsipras.

He even proposed that SYRIZA's name, symbol, wealth, and state funding be transferred to a new political formation that could be led by the former Greek prime minister.

This statement shocked the party and highlighted the real fear within SYRIZA that Alexis Tsipras is preparing for a political comeback with a new project, leaving behind a party consumed by internal conflicts.

Pavlos Polakis reacted sharply against the leadership's silence and directly attacked Sokratis Famellos, accusing him of lacking initiative and tolerating the party's disintegration.

" What is this silence, lack of initiative and indecision serving? " Polakis wrote, calling for an urgent meeting of the party's governing bodies.

But his reaction brought about the final clash with Famellos. The SYRIZA leader immediately expelled him from the parliamentary group, accusing him of personal attacks and insinuations that he was acting with a "hidden agenda."

Famellos declared that he would not allow "personal strategies and rumors" that damage the party's seriousness and insisted that SYRIZA should move towards the unification of progressive forces and not towards internal wars.

On the other hand, Polakis exploded with strong accusations, stating that "three leaders in a row" have expelled him from the parliamentary group and accusing Famellos of watching "the party's disintegration without reacting."

" I was and will be SYRIZA ," he declared, warning of new clashes in the party's leadership.

The current crisis is considered deeper than a personal conflict. It reflects the battle for SYRIZA's identity and survival after the Tsipras era.

After electoral defeats and Tsipras' departure from the party leadership, SYRIZA has failed to find political stability. Instead, the party has entered a cycle of crises, departures, divisions, and internal rivalries that are steadily weakening the left-wing opposition in Greece.

In the background is always the figure of Alexis Tsipras, who, although formally outside the party leadership, continues to dominate the political debate in the Greek progressive camp. Rumors of the creation of a new political force by the former prime minister are increasing and this is creating great nervousness within SYRIZA.

For many analysts in Athens, Polakis' expulsion is a sign that the party is entering another phase of disunity, while the main question remains whether SYRIZA can survive as a united force or will it ultimately fragment after the Tsipras era. / Pamphlet
