Italian authorities have identified the person who caused chaos in the center of Modena after he ran over several pedestrians with his car and then tried to escape.
According to Italian media, the author is Salim El Koudri, 31 years old, a graduate in Economics. He was born in Seriate, in the province of Bergamo, on March 30, 1995, but lived in Ravarino, in the Modena area.
Preliminary investigations show that the 31-year-old tested negative for alcohol and narcotics, which so far excludes the possibility that he was under the influence of substances at the time of the incident.
According to initial information from investigators, El Koudri had mental health problems and had been undergoing psychiatric treatment in Castelfranco Emilia until 2024.
Meanwhile, Italian police have conducted searches at his apartment in Ravarino to collect evidence and understand the motives for the incident.
Currently, the 31-year-old is at the Modena police station, where he is being questioned by investigators.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Via Emilia Centro, where the car he was driving drove onto the sidewalk at high speed, injuring several people. After the collision, he attempted to flee and, according to witnesses, even pulled out a knife during the fight with citizens who chased him and neutralized him until the police arrived.
Investigations are continuing to determine whether this was a deliberate act or an episode related to his psychological state.
