"Meeting with Iran this weekend", Trump: Tehran has agreed not to have

Trump added that Iran has agreed to never have nuclear weapons...

US President Donald Trump, in a press statement to reporters at the White House, said there may be no need to extend the ceasefire with Iran, which expires next week, although he threatened to resume fighting if the two sides do not reach an agreement.

He added that Iran is eager to make a deal and has shown it is willing to do things today that it was not willing to do two months ago. Trump added that Iran has agreed to never have nuclear weapons.

"Iran wants to make a deal and we're treating them very well. We shouldn't have nuclear weapons... that's a big factor. And they're willing to do things today that they weren't willing to do two months ago ," President Trump said.

Asked moments later about what would happen if the US and Iran did not reach a permanent deal, Trump vowed to resume the attacks.

" If there is no deal, the fighting will resume ," Trump added.

The president suggested that another round of face-to-face negotiations with the Iranians could happen over the weekend.

" Maybe, maybe over the weekend ," Trump told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House.

He also praised the US blockade of Iranian ports, calling it "amazing" and claiming that it has effectively stopped most of Iran's economic activity.

"So we're doing very well on that, which has to do with the whole situation with Iran. The blockade is amazing. It's holding up very, very strong. And I think we're making a lot of progress on that ," Trump told reporters.

The president claimed that the effort has left Iran unable to conduct business, indicating what he described as a collapse of its military capabilities.

" It's been, it's been held and they're not doing any business. They're not able to do any business because of the blockade. And so, the combination of the lack of navy, the lack of air force, the lack of anti-aircraft equipment, they have nothing, everything is gone. No ship will pass by our navy ," he said.

Trump on Thursday called the possibility of a White House meeting between Israel and Lebanon "very exciting," expressing optimism that the two sides can broker a peace deal.

" I think we'll have a meeting in the next week or two, it'll be the first in 44 years ," he told reporters, adding that the meeting could take place at the White House.

Trump’s invitation came shortly after Israel and Lebanon agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, which he called a “very good package for about a week.” If the two countries reach a permanent ceasefire, Trump said the deal would include Hezbollah.

"I think we will have an agreement between Lebanon and they will take care of Hezbollah ," he said, adding that he would be open to visiting Lebanon at the appropriate time.

Trump also said he would consider traveling to Pakistan to sign a peace agreement if the US and Iran reach a deal to end the war.

"I would go to Pakistan. If the deal is signed in Islamabad, I can go. They want me to go," he told reporters  at the White House. Trump also praised the Pakistanis who served as mediators in the negotiations for the war, saying they had "been so brilliant."
