With less than a week left until the Alaskan summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, diplomacy is at its peak. Kiev, London, Washington and Brussels are working on a common position, while Moscow denounces attempts at sabotage.
A White House official told CBS News that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could also be involved in the Alaskan meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The source, speaking to the American broadcaster, explained that planning for the meeting is still in a fluid stage and that the Ukrainian leader could eventually be involved in some way.
Zelensky reiterated his opposition to territorial concessions and thanked Berlin for the new Patriot systems. Meanwhile, rumors are emerging about the Ukrainian leader's possible involvement in the talks and the possibility of a future meeting between the US and Russia on Russian soil.
"I spoke with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. I am grateful for his support. We share the same vision on the need for a truly lasting peace for Ukraine and the danger posed by Russia's plan to reduce everything to discussing the impossible." This is what the Ukrainian president stated in a message published on X after the telephone conversation with the British Prime Minister.
The United Kingdom will host a meeting this afternoon between senior officials from the United States, the EU, Ukraine and several European countries to define a common position ahead of the summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin scheduled for August 15 in Alaska. A European Commission spokesman announced the news, confirming that a representative will attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, the first suspicions have been raised from Moscow that some countries are making titanic efforts to disrupt the Putin-Trump summit.
“Undoubtedly, some countries interested in continuing the conflict will make Herculean efforts, using provocations and disinformation, to disrupt the planned meeting between President Putin and President Trump,” Kirill Dmitriev, Executive Director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, wrote on Telegram.
