German gold reserves in the US are worth 100 billion euros and Germany is considering removing a large stockpile of gold from a vault in New York due to concerns about the unpredictable policies of US President Donald Trump.
For decades, Berlin has stored 1,200 tons of its famous gold reserves, the second largest on the planet after those of the United States, in an underground vault at the US Federal Reserve in Manhattan.
The news was published by the German newspaper BILD. The German government had previously considered this possibility in the context of statements made by President Trump after his inauguration regarding customs tariffs.
Senior figures from the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, which will lead the next German government, have discussed its departure from New York, due to concerns that Washington is no longer a reliable partner.
