An unusual diplomatic incident appears to have occurred on February 18 in Saudi Arabia, during a round of negotiations between delegations from Russia and the United States.
According to sources in the Russian newspaper 'Agentstvo', great tensions have accompanied the Russian negotiating team and the whole scheme was carried out in front of the Americans. As reported, President Vladimir Putin had appointed two different teams to represent Russia without full coordination - a decision that became a source of direct conflict between senior Russian officials.
Initially, the delegation consisted of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Putin aide Yuri Ushakov. Later, without warning, Putin's special envoy Kirill Dmitriev joined — an addition that caused immediate tension in the room.
When Dmitriev arrived in the meeting room, Lavrov reacted harshly, refusing to let him sit at the table and even pushing his chair away.
" If he wants to participate, let Vladimir Vladimirovich tell me personally ," Lavrov was quoted as saying, referring to Putin.
After the incident, Dmitriev was forced to leave the room and stand in the hallway, where, according to sources, he spoke to reporters. The entire scene took place in front of the American delegation, who, according to the newspaper, were stunned by the public outburst of Russian officials.
" Each one goes to Putin separately, and he gives them different messages. That's why Russia often doesn't have a clear position in negotiations ," the Agentstvo source said.
So far, there has been no official reaction from the Kremlin or the American side regarding the incident.
