Russian state news agency Tass reports that the device that killed General Kirillov was operated remotely
A senior general of the Russian armed forces has been killed in an explosion in Moscow by Ukrainian forces. General Igor Kirillov was leaving an apartment building early Tuesday when a device hidden on a scooter detonated, Russia's investigative committee said.
Russian state news agency Tass reports that the device that killed General Kirillov was operated remotely. It also says the bomb could have contained around 300g of explosives.
The incident occurred a day after Ukraine's SBU security service reported that Ukrainian prosecutors filed an indictment against Kirillov, accusing him of being responsible for using chemical weapons against Ukrainian troops during the war triggered by Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. It is learned that his assistant was also killed during the attack.

In October, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on General Kirillov, saying he had overseen the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine and spread Russian fake news.
At the time, the UK said Russian forces had "openly admitted the use of dangerous chemical weapons on the battlefield", including the "toxic choking agent chloropicrin", which was first used in the First World War. The Kremlin had previously called allegations of chloropicrin use "baseless".
Meanwhile, yesterday, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) accused Kirillov in absentia of using chemical weapons in Ukraine. The SBU claims chemical weapons have been used in the country more than 4,800 times since Russia's full invasion in February 2022.
They have accused him of committing a war crime. Ukrainian Colonel Artem Vlasiuk says more than 2,000 Ukrainian service members have been hospitalized from chemical poisoning during the course of the war, and three people have died.
According to the SBU, Russian forces drop chemical weapons on Ukrainian soldiers with drones. "Chemical grenades" release poisonous gases that irritate the eyes and respiratory system.
