A tragic accident has been recorded in Turin where a high-speed train killed 5 workers and injured two others while they were fixing the tracks. The accident happened shortly after midnight on the Turin-Milan line between Chivasso and Brandizzo.
The passenger-less train that hit the workers to death was traveling at 160 km per hour towards Turin, dragging them for about 1 kilometer.
The group of workers were busy replacing about ten meters of rail.
"They're all dead" can be heard from the tracks at Brandizzo station. The train hit several workers who were engaged in maintenance work on the line. There are five victims, the youngest was 22 years old. They were all Piedmontese.
Two other workers were taken to hospital with shock but were not injured.
The workers were all employees of an external company, Sigifer e Borgo Vercelli. There were numerous police, carabinieri and Polfer patrols at the scene, as well as various firefighting teams.
The victims are still unidentified while the dynamics of the accident are being investigated.
Currently, railway traffic has been suspended while many train journeys have been cancelled.
