The administration of US President Donald Trump has chosen former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to head the interim administration that will govern the Gaza Strip after the war ends.
According to the Israeli newspaper, the Times of Israel, the US president has authorized Blair to convene regional and international stakeholders around the former British prime minister's proposal to create a post-war transitional body to govern the Gaza Strip.
There are still no details on how it will work and who will be responsible for the interim government cabinet, which will be led by Blair.
However, it is worth noting that this news comes just hours after Trump declared in a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the US is very close to negotiating an agreement between Hamas and Israel.
" We had a great meeting the other day at the UN General Assembly, as you know, and I think we're, I think we're close to reaching some kind of agreement. Yes, we want, we want to return the hostages. We have to return the hostages. I met with Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates. We met with Jordan. We had a really great meeting. I think a lot of things were determined in that meeting ," Trump said a few hours ago at the White House.
There are currently no details regarding the peace plan presented by Trump, but there is talk of a pact containing 21 points that address the main issues.
Yesterday, US envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that US President Donald Trump has presented a plan to countries in the region.
“ We presented what we call Trump’s 21-point plan for peace in the Middle East and Gaza ,” Witkoff said.
According to Israeli media, the Trump administration hopes the framework will mobilize Arab states to pour money into the war-torn Strip and rebuild its civilian infrastructure. Trump will meet with Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on Monday, where the 21-point plan is expected to be discussed.
Earlier this week, a senior Israeli official told The Times of Israel that the Trump administration had privately warned Israel against annexing the West Bank in response to Western recognition of a Palestinian state.
