Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will meet with former US President Donald Trump in Florida next week. He said that a possible return of Trump is the only possibility to end the war in Ukraine.
Addressing a diplomacy forum in Turkey, Orbán also stressed that Trump's possible return to the White House could help end the conflict in Gaza.
Orban's meeting with Trump comes as the former US president looks to turn his attention to his upcoming election showdown with US President Joe Biden.
Trump's political position within his own party looks stronger than ever, having easily won the early Republican presidential contests.
"The only serious chance for peace is if he is able to come back and make peace. Otherwise, the war between Ukraine and Russia will be long," he added.
Trump's return "is a prerequisite for a strong and quick peace on the European continent," he continued.
Orbán even said he was convinced that if Trump had been in office when the war in Ukraine began, "there would not have been a war now."
Commenting on the war in Gaza, the Hungarian prime minister said Trump "did something that created some hope," referring to the Abraham Accords aimed at normalizing ties between Israel and the Gulf states.
Orbán and Trump have been longtime allies, and Trump regularly praises the right-wing populist in his campaign speeches.
Trump said in early 2022 that he was giving his "full support and endorsement" to Orban's re-election campaign that year.
