US President Donald Trump has posted a video statement on Truth Social, saying the US will "avenge" the deaths of American soldiers and "deal the most punishing blow" to the Iranian regime.
Trump adds that the US is "undertaking a massive operation, not only to ensure the security of our time and place, but also of our children and their children."
He further emphasizes that this is the "duty and burden of a free people."
"These actions are right and necessary to ensure that Americans will never face a radical, bloodthirsty, nuclear-armed terrorist regime," he says.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in his first statement after the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, said that Iran's armed forces will forcefully crush the enemy's bases.
He also stressed that the assassination of Leader Khamenei will bring nothing to the US and Israel and that this will not go unanswered.
"America and Israel should know that killing our leaders will not achieve anything. The leadership council has begun its work and our armed forces will forcefully crush the enemy's bases."
"This great crime will never remain unanswered and will open a new page in the history of the Islamic world and Shiism," he said, among other things.
