United States President Donald Trump stated that the US administration is in talks with Cuba, but stressed that the main priority at the moment remains ending the situation with Iran.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump confirmed that communications between Washington and Havana are ongoing, but clarified that his administration's immediate focus is the crisis in the Middle East.
"We are talking to Cuba, but we will end up with Iran before Cuba," the US president declared.
Meanwhile, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has confirmed that diplomatic contacts are taking place between the two countries, aimed at easing tensions and addressing long-standing disputes between the US and Cuba.
Trump also stressed that many of his supporters in South Florida, especially the Cuban-American community, expect changes in relations between the two countries after decades of political clashes.
The US president has mentioned the situation on the island several times in recent months, hinting that recent developments could lead to a possible agreement in the near future.
"I think very soon we'll either make a deal, or we'll do what we have to do," Trump said, leaving open the possibility of different scenarios for relations between the two countries.
