Yesterday at the Republican Convention, the former president began his speech in an unusually conciliatory tone, saying he intended to be president of all America, not just half of it. But he quickly returned to his old rhetoric, sharply attacking the administration. Biden, as he said, was destroying the country.
Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump said in a Social Truth post that he had a "great phone call" with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday.
Trump has said he will end the war in Ukraine before taking office in January if he wins the Nov. 5 election.
"As the next president I will bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost many human lives and destroyed many innocent families. He congratulated me on the Republican convention and on receiving the nomination to become the Republican candidate. He condemned last Saturday's assassination. I appreciate you contacting me because, as the next president of the United States, I will bring peace to the world. Both sides will come together and negotiate an agreement that it will end the violence and pave the way for prosperity," Trump wrote on social networks.
Yesterday at the Republican Convention, the former president began his speech in unusually conciliatory tones, saying he intended to be president of all of America, not just half of it.
But he quickly returned to the old rhetoric, harshly attacking the Biden administration that, as he said, was destroying the country. He insisted without presenting evidence that the criminal charges against him were part of a Democratic conspiracy, predicted that his Democratic rival would instigate World War III and denounced what he called an invasion of immigrants across the southern border.
"It is shameful what this administration has done, the damage it has caused us. As I often say, if you take the 10 worst presidents of the United States, they collectively haven't done as much damage as Joe Biden."
In the longest speech in convention history, Trump repeated false claims that Democrats stole the 2020 election and called on them to abandon what he called a witch hunt. Suggesting he would end the wars, he repeated promises to build a wall on the southern border, impose tariffs on foreign goods, as he vowed to reverse some of Biden's policies.
The entire Trump family, including wife Melania, were present on the final day of the Republican convention.
