
President Donald Trump, during his address to a joint session of Congress, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin felt empowered to invade Ukraine because of the way the Biden administration handled the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
Trump criticized former President Joe Biden's chaotic exit from Afghanistan in August 2021, which marked a political disaster for Biden as the Afghan government collapsed and the Taliban returned to power.
Trump detailed the bombing outside the Abbey Gate of Kabul International Airport, which killed 13 American service members.
"When Putin saw what happened, I think he said, 'Well, maybe this is my chance.' It was that bad. It should never have happened. Extremely incompetent people," Trump said of the Biden administration.
