Following his call with Vladimir Putin during Monday's summit with European leaders, US President Donald Trump also called Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to urge him to remove all obstacles to Ukraine's EU membership, according to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter.
During the call, Hungary expressed its readiness to host upcoming negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Budapest.
Trump stated that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky would take place, but that the location had not yet been determined.
"Ukraine's membership in the European Union does not provide security guarantees. Therefore, linking membership to security guarantees is pointless and dangerous," Orban reacted on social media.
