A 28-year-old man from Mali caused chaos this morning at Terminal 1 of Milan's Malpensa Airport, where he started a fire, causing large flames near Gate 13 and raising the alarm among passengers.
The man also began breaking the counters with a hammer.
He was stopped by security personnel from the company that manages the airport.
Meanwhile, firefighters intervened and evacuated the terminal as a precaution while securing the area. Airport operations subsequently resumed.
The man is charged with causing grievous bodily harm. The 28-year-old, who enjoys subsidiary protection, has never been in trouble before. A summary trial is already scheduled for tomorrow.
