United States President Donald Trump said he was "very angry" and "disappointed" with Vladimir Putin for his criticism of Volodymyr Zelensky, warning that he could impose secondary tariffs on Russian oil if Moscow is responsible for failing to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Two days ago, Putin called for the formation of a transitional government in Ukraine, a possibility that could remove Zelensky from power.
"If we don't make a deal with Russia to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I find Russia guilty - which they may not be - but if I do, then there will be tariffs. Anyone who buys Russian oil will not be able to do business with the United States," Trump stressed.
The tariffs under consideration range from 25% to 50% on Russian oil and other products imported into the United States. Trump noted that these sanctions would be implemented within a month if a full ceasefire agreement is not reached.
Despite emphasizing his anger, he reiterated that he maintains a "very good relationship" with Putin and that "anger passes quickly... if you do the right thing."
The two leaders are expected to talk again within the week, he revealed.
