US President Donald Trump held phone calls with Middle Eastern leaders on Sunday, a day after announcing that the United States had launched "major combat operations" in Iran.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt announced on the X platform that Trump spoke with the leaders of Israel, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. No details were given on the content of the talks, but the calls come at a time of significant escalation in the situation in the region.
In the same statement, Leavitt said the president has also been briefed on a shooting at an entertainment district in Austin, Texas. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating a “possible terrorism connection” to the attack, which left at least three people dead, including the suspected shooter, and 14 injured.
Trump has been staying at his Mar-a-Lago residence in West Palm Beach, Florida, since Friday, but is expected to return to the White House later today.
