Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was "sad" over the death of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a wave of US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran on Saturday.
In a post on the X platform on Sunday, Erdogan said he received the news of Khamenei's passing with sadness and expressed his "condolences" to the Iranian people.
A day earlier, the Turkish president had condemned the US and Israeli attacks, stating that they violate Iran's sovereignty and violate the peace of the Iranian people.
Ankara's statement comes at a time of escalating tensions in the region, as military operations and diplomatic responses are taking place in parallel on several fronts.
