The United Arab Emirates announced the closure of its embassy in Tehran and the withdrawal of its ambassador and diplomatic staff, following direct missile attacks by Iran on its territory.
In a statement, the Emirates Foreign Ministry said the decision came in response to "open Iranian missile attacks" that hit civilian targets, including residential areas, airports, ports and service infrastructure.
The ministry stressed that the attacks endangered the lives of civilians and constitute a "serious and irresponsible escalation," describing them as flagrant violations of national sovereignty, international law, and the United Nations Charter.
The Emirates stated that the move reflects "their firm and unwavering stance" against any aggression that violates the country's security and sovereignty, warning that continued hostile actions risk leading the region towards a very dangerous trajectory.
The statement also warned that escalating instability threatens regional and international peace, energy security, and the stability of the global economy.
The diplomatic severance marks a sharp turn in relations between the two countries. The Emirates restored full diplomatic relations with Iran in 2022, after several years of tension, returning its ambassador to Tehran as part of efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
