Escalation resumes: explosions in Tehran, missiles towards Israel and US bases
The escalation of tensions between Iran, Israel and US allies has resumed with high intensity, as Iranian ballistic missiles continue to target targets in the region and alarm sirens sound across Israeli cities.
The Israeli military announced that it had identified and was intercepting missiles launched from Iran towards its territory. Air defense systems were activated and alarm sirens were heard in various areas of Israel, warning residents of the approaching threat.
In a statement, the Israeli army's Home Front Command said it had sent warning messages to citizens' mobile phones in the relevant areas, urging them to follow official security instructions. "The public is urged to be responsible and act according to instructions," the statement said.
Meanwhile, loud explosions rocked the Iranian capital Tehran at around 9pm local time, with windows of buildings shaking from the shockwaves. Iranian state television reported that it was under attack at the same time, although it did not specify which facility was hit.
In Iraq, Iranian-backed factions said they had fired ballistic missiles at the Erbil area, where US forces are stationed. A group calling itself the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” also claimed to have carried out dozens of drone strikes on Sunday against “enemy bases in Iraq and the region.”

Reports from the scene showed explosions near the Erbil Air Base, where US troops are stationed. Videos captured on the ground showed flames and smoke rising near areas of the base. US air defenses have been activated, but it is not yet clear whether the explosions were direct hits or interceptions by defense systems.
During the day, verified photographs showed thick clouds of black smoke rising from the fire at the base, while an unknown number of US troops are in Iraq to advise and support local security forces.
In another development, the British Ministry of Defense announced that a Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jet, operating from Qatar, shot down an Iranian drone that was heading towards Qatari territory. The plane, part of a joint British-Qatari squadron, used an air-to-air missile to destroy the device during a defensive patrol.
The British ministry stressed that its forces are playing a key role in protecting its citizens, interests and allies in the region. Iranian authorities have not yet commented on the drone incident.
Recent developments show that the conflict is expanding on many fronts, from the territory of Israel and Iraq to the airspace of Qatar, and that the risk of a wider military conflict in the Middle East remains high. The ongoing attacks have transformed the region into a tense scene, where air defense systems are on high alert and citizens live under the threat of missiles and drones. / Pamphlet
