A family member of Erfan Soltani has said he was not executed today. Relatives of the 26-year-old Iranian, who was arrested last week, said that despite the postponement, the execution could happen at any time.
The 26-year-old was reportedly arrested last Thursday. Norwegian human rights group Hengaw said he was being held in Kezel Hesar prison and that "the possibility of his execution within the next few hours is very high."
The US State Department said Soltani's death would be the first execution of a protester since the protests, but "not the last".
Later, Donald Trump vowed to take "very strong measures" if the regime in Tehran continues with the execution of protesters, at a time when a possible US military action in Iran is imminent.
"If they hang them, you'll see what happens," the US president told CBS News on Tuesday night. He added: "If they want to protest, that's one thing. When they start killing thousands of people, and now you're talking to me about hanging them, we'll see how it turns out for them. It's not going to turn out well for them."
Erfan would become the first person to be executed for participating in the protests, which have rocked Iran and left hundreds of innocent citizens dead.
