The final farewell is being given today to five of the seven victims of the tragic accident in Romania, where the van carrying PAOK fans violently collided with a truck.
In Alexandria of Imathia, the atmosphere is heavy. At 11:00, the bodies of the three young men arrive at the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, where family, friends and relatives will bid their last farewell to Vasilis Palos, Kostas Markopoulos and Dimitris Maronitis. The funeral service will take place at 13:00.
In Thessaloniki, specifically in Efkarpia, at 12:00, the funeral ceremony for Giorgos Kesanidis will be held at the Church of Saint Irini Chrysovalantou. Meanwhile, at 13:00, in Stefanina, municipality of Volos, family members will bid farewell to Thanasis Gouzouris, at the Church of Saint Dimitrios.
Meanwhile, anxiety remains over the health condition of the seriously injured 20-year-old, who is hospitalized at the Neurosurgery Clinic of the “Papageorgiou” hospital in Thessaloniki, but out of danger for his life. According to doctors, he has the most serious injuries of the survivors. Another injured man, 28 years old, left the same hospital yesterday, after expressing a strong desire to attend the funerals of his friends and to say their last goodbyes.
Encouraging news also comes from Romania for the other injured 20-year-old, who is being treated at a hospital in Timisoara. According to APE-MPE, doctors have reduced the sedation and the young man has been able to move his limbs, excluding his broken arm. He will remain intubated for medical reasons, in order to avoid respiratory complications after the surgical intervention. A medical board is expected to assess in the coming days whether and when his repatriation can be carried out.
