Treasury bonds worth US$92 million were confiscated today at Skopje International Airport.
Treasury bills, namely 184 securities, each worth 500,000 dollars, were found in the bag of a Turkish citizen who disembarked at the airport from Istanbul. It was the scanner that discovered the securities, while the man had stated that he had nothing with him.
The bills were found in four folders, placed in a black handbag.
The Director of Customs, Stefan Bogoev, said that securities are one of the instruments that are smuggled to do money laundering.
The Basic Court of Skopje made a decision, with which all treasury bonds were confiscated, while the suspect was fined according to the Law on Foreign Exchange. The securities will be handed over to the Agency for the Management of Confiscated Properties.
This action is considered to have broken the record of its kind in terms of confiscation value, the media of the neighboring country write.
