The Pentagon has banned photographers from major international news agencies from attending press conferences related to the developing military conflict between the US and Israel with Iran.
According to two people familiar with the matter and speaking to the Washington Post, the decision was made after aides to US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth deemed the photographs published by international agencies to be "not favorable."
Several major agencies, including the Associated Press, Reuters and Getty Images, had sent photographers to cover the press conference of Hegseth and the US Chief of Staff, General Dan Caine.
However, after the photographs were published by media outlets around the world, members of Hegseth's staff told their colleagues that they were not happy with how the minister looked in the images.
According to Washington Post sources, Hegseth's aides then decided to exclude agency photographers from the next two press conferences at the Pentagon, on March 4 and 10.
White House deputy spokeswoman Anna Kelly declined to comment on the decision. Currently, only US Department of Defense staff photographers are allowed to attend Secretary Hegseth's press conferences.
