Students and police clashed yesterday evening at the entrance to the Faculty of Philosophy in the northern city of Novi Sad in Serbia, as violent protests have been ongoing for some time.
The clashes occurred after protesting students tried to break through the police cordon and enter the faculty, protesting the faculty leadership's decision to not allow students to enter the building since yesterday.
Meanwhile, students continue to call on authoritarian President Aleksandar Vučić to set a date for early parliamentary elections through ongoing protests.
In Serbia, since November 2024, mass demonstrations of the population have not stopped after a tent collapsed at the railway station in Novi Sad. This led to the death of 15 people. This disaster became the starting point for a wave of public discontent, expressed in regular actions on the streets.
At the same time, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić emphasizes that mass demonstrations pose additional risks to the stability of the state and exacerbate existing internal difficulties.
