The Israeli military has warned that it will continue to pursue any potential successor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in a US-Israeli strike on Iran. The warning also includes anyone who might be involved in the process of appointing a new leader.
The statement was made through a Persian-language post published by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which noted that Israel will act against any attempt to replace Khamenei.
"After neutralizing the tyrant Khamenei, the Iranian terrorist regime is seeking to rebuild itself and elect a new leader. The Iranian Assembly of Experts, which has not convened for decades, will soon convene in the city of Qom.
"We will continue to pursue any successor and anyone who tries to appoint a successor. We warn all those who intend to attend the meeting that we will not hesitate to target you. This is a warning!" a post published by the IDF in Persian read.
This reaction comes after the Iranian Mehr news agency reported that the religious body responsible for choosing the next Supreme Leader had reached an overwhelming agreement on the successor.
