Following the assassination of American activist Charlie Kirk, the world is in turmoil. The division within the US appears to have reached a new level and fears of civil war are spreading.
Russia has also reacted to the incident.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov sees the killing of Charlie Kirk as a result of polarization in American society. "It is the task of American law enforcement agencies to determine whether these are isolated incidents or a trend, which would be much worse," the spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with Russian state television, quoted by the Interfax news agency.
Prominent Kremlin figures blame Ukraine and the political left for Kirkuk assassination
Thus, Moscow officially responded to Kirk's death. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev linked the murder to Kiev supporters. "Political crimes and murders have recently been committed by a bunch of left-wing liberal scum who support Banderist Kiev," he wrote in X. The Banderists are members of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, or OUN for short. Russia justified its war of aggression against Ukraine, among other things, by arguing that Kiev was ruled by fascists.
Meanwhile, "peace negotiator" Kirill Dmitriev shared a video in which alleged left-wing activists were "in a completely celebratory mood over Kirk's murder." Dmitriev also wrote that "voices of light" cannot be silenced and reposted a message from billionaire Elon Musk that read: "The left is the party of murder."
Right-wing conservative activist and podcaster Charlie Kirk, a supporter of US President Donald Trump, was shot dead on Wednesday in the US state of Utah while speaking outside on a university campus. Kirk had repeatedly criticized NATO and Ukrainian President Zelensky, whom he once called a "CIA puppet." This stance may have been the origin of Kirk's popularity in Moscow.
