The Larissa Court of Appeal in Greece has accepted the extradition request made by the Italian authorities for Francis Kaufmann, the American citizen accused of the double murder. The crime took place on June 7 last year in Villa Pamphili, Rome. The victims were Anastasia Trofimova, 23, and her daughter Andromeda, only eleven months old, who were found dead.
Kaufmann, known in the world of cinema under the pseudonym Rexal Ford, is currently in custody in Greece, where he was arrested a few days after the tragedy. During a hearing via video link, in the presence of Greek and Italian magistrates, the man exercised his right to remain silent, limiting himself to declaring his innocence: "I will speak only after consulting with my lawyer and the American consulate."
The Public Prosecutor's Office of Rome continues to investigate the circumstances of the death of Anastasia and little Andromeda. After the autopsy, further histological analyses were ordered to clarify the causes of death. The most plausible hypothesis is drowning, but investigators do not rule out other scenarios.
Meanwhile, the Central Anti-Crime Directorate has secured and transmitted to the Rome Prosecutor's Office the documentation related to the public funding received by Kaufmann from the Italian Ministry of Culture. It concerns over 800 thousand euros given as tax credits for the film for the project "Stars of the Night", presented through the company Tintangel Films Llc and the Italian co-production Coevolutions srl.
The Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, personally attended the delivery of the documents to the investigators, accompanying the judicial police officers to the headquarters of the General Directorate of Cinema.
In addition to the murder charges, a disturbing profile of the man emerges on a personal and professional level. Kaufmann's sister, Penelope, gave an interview to the newspaper La Repubblica in which she accused him of fraud and violence. "The scripts he tried to sell were mine. He deceived so many people, including me," she said, adding that her brother had tried to kill one of their relatives in the United States. "He changed his name to escape. He is violent, especially when he drinks or takes drugs. We were all terrified of him."
