Tehran described Donald Trump's statements regarding Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as disrespectful and unacceptable.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi attacked the US president, who claimed that although his military "dealt a heavy blow" to Iran, it did not kill Ali Khamenei.
"If President Trump really wants to make a deal, he must put aside his unacceptable tone and disrespect for Iran's supreme leader, the great Ayatollah Khamenei, and stop hurting millions of his sincere supporters," Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi stressed via X.
According to him, "the great and powerful Iranian people, who showed the world that the Israeli regime had no choice but to run to 'father' to avoid destruction by our missiles, do not appreciate threats and insults," the Iranian Foreign Minister stressed, adding that "goodwill begets goodwill and respect begets respect."
Trump criticized Tehran via Truth Social for claiming to have won the 12-day war with Israel. The US president accused the Iranian leader of "lying" about the extent of the damage caused by the bombings on his country's nuclear facilities.
"I knew exactly where he was and I would not allow Israel, nor the American armed forces, by far the most powerful and largest in the world, to end his life," the American president said via the social network he owns.
"I saved him from a horrible death," Trump wrote.
