Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at least 21,000 Wagner mercenaries have been killed fighting in Ukraine. He said the private military company had suffered heavy losses, especially in eastern Ukraine where its most powerful group was fighting.
"Our troops killed 21,000 Wagner soldiers in eastern Ukraine alone," Zelensky said during a press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
"A further 80,000 of Wagner's fighters were wounded. These were huge losses for Wagner PMC,” he continued.
Zelensky's claims about Wagner's losses come just a week after the head of the private military company Yevgeny Prigozhin led his men in a failed rebellion against Moscow. Wagner marched on the Russian capital but withdrew after an agreement with the Belarusian president.
