The operation carried out by Ukrainian forces in Russia's Belgorod region was publicly confirmed for the first time by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a video message released tonight, Zelensky said that the chief of the general staff of Ukraine's national defense, Oleksandr Shirsky, presented a report on "the front line, our presence in the Kursk region (of Russia) and our presence in the Belgorod region (of Russia).
"We are continuing our operations in the enemy's border areas, and this is absolutely justified. The war must return to where it came from. Our main goal remains the same: to protect our territories and communities in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions from the Russian invaders," the Ukrainian president said.
