Bild reports that US envoy Steve Witkoff is in contact with Yuri Ushakov, Vladimir Putin's chief negotiator. In the Chancellor's office, among others, Witkoff, Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Volodymyr Zelensky are physically present, moderated by Friedrich Merz's sherpa, Guenter Sautter.
Merz: "We want lasting peace, Kiev's interests are also European interests"
"We want lasting peace in Ukraine. We face difficult issues, but we are determined to move forward." This is what Friedrich Merz wrote on X, publishing a video showing the German Chancellor welcoming Volodymyr Zelensky, Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, along with the rest of the Ukrainian and American delegations, to the Chancellery. "Ukrainian interests are also European interests," Merz concludes.
Zelensky: "The meeting in Berlin has begun"
"We have started our meeting," Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Facebook the start of the meeting in Berlin with the US delegation, which includes Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the president's son-in-law, Jared Kusher. The Ukrainian president also posted a photo of the Ukrainian delegation, along with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the head of NATO forces in Europe, US General Alexus Grynkewich.
This meeting will be followed by others with European partners, given that peace must be based on a sustainable political agreement to end the war. Meanwhile, it has been learned that in the revised peace plan, Kiev does not give up on Donbass and NATO.
Macron to Zelensky: "Europe and Ukrainians for peace, Russia continues its war."
"Americans, Europeans and Ukrainians are only seeking peace. While Russia continues its war of aggression, Ukraine is resisting," President Emmanuel Macron said today in a phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky, as reported by X.
"France," Macron wrote, "is and will continue to stand by Ukraine to build a strong and lasting peace capable of guaranteeing the security and sovereignty of Ukraine and Europe in the long term." The French president concluded by thanking "all the Ukrainian, European and American negotiators mobilized for this purpose."
