Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Italy, where he was welcomed to a meeting by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The two leaders greeted each other at the Chigi Palace in Rome where they will continue their meeting. The Ukrainian president earlier met with Pope Leo, whom he invited to visit Ukraine, calling such a trip a strong signal of support for the Ukrainian people.
We recall that this meeting comes just a short time after the Italian government decided to postpone the adoption of a decree that would allow Rome to extend military supplies to Ukraine until next year.
The setback comes amid tensions within Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's right-wing coalition government over support for Ukraine against Russia's full-scale invasion, which is now approaching its fourth anniversary.
Meloni has pledged to help Ukraine resist Russian aggression to the end, but her deputy Matteo Salvini, leader of the League party, has questioned the logic of continued support.
