Independent candidate in the November presidential election Robert F. Kennedy Jr. filed paperwork to withdraw from the Arizona state race.
According to sources, Kennedy's campaign staff told the Reuters news agency that he wants a deal with Donald Trump under which he will support the Republican rival in exchange for a job in a possible Trump administration.
Trump told CNN this week that he was open to Kennedy playing a role in his administration if the independent candidate drops out of the race and endorses him.
Kennedy, 70, is the son of the late Democratic politician and US Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and the grandson of the late President John F. Kennedy. He began his presidential campaign as a Democrat, challenging President Joe Biden for the nomination.
