Presidential elections in Russia, Vladimir Putin is officially registered as a

The Central Election Commission of Russia has registered the current president, Vladimir Putin, as a candidate for the new presidential elections.

Putin will run for a fifth presidential term.

Due to the constitutional changes, which have been criticized by experts, Putin has the right to become president for two more terms. For the first time he was elected president of Russia in 2000, writes REL.

Putin will run as an independent candidate in the elections set for March 17. To register as a candidate, he was required to collect at least 300,000 signatures of Russians from different regions of the country to support his candidacy. Of the submitted signatures, 0.15 percent of them were declared invalid by the Central Election Commission of Russia.

During the collection of signatures for Putin, a number of violations were identified. In particular, in St. Petersburg, signatures were collected by members of the area commission, which directly constitutes a violation of the law.

Putin has become the fourth registered candidate for the Russian presidential election, after Vladislav Davankov from the New People's Party, Nikolai Kharitonov from the Communist Party and Leonid Slutsky from the Liberal Democratic Party. Overall, 11 candidates are aiming to run in the election and candidates have until January 31 to collect the necessary signatures.
