The dangerous game in Kosovo with the new government

Kosovo in institutional impasse: Kurti's stubbornness and the West's silence are paving the way for tragedy!

Kosovo is going through one of the most difficult institutional moments since the declaration of independence. With the elections of February 9, the country is entering the second 100 days without a functional Assembly and without a new government. The central institution of the Republic continues to remain paralyzed, and this political crisis is being accompanied by a frightening silence from the international factor.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti is appearing steadfast in his demand to elect Albulena Haxhiu as head of the Assembly, even though he does not have the necessary numbers. He insists on the principle of the secret ballot, but forgets that he is no longer in the Opposition, but the man who has received the mandate to lead the country.

Believing that you can form a government through non-participation and stubbornness is political naivety, but in the context of a region filled with external interests, it is also a dangerous adventure.

The opposition is shattered and the media is captured.

Opposition parties in Kosovo, which could potentially form institutions with alliances, are failing to create any kind of cohesion. Vision, cooperation and political courage are lacking. At the same time, the media, which should be corrective, has become an extension of personal tensions and political propaganda. Analysts who once opposed Kurti, today behave like parties choked by the crisis, without real solutions.

Escalating the European approach

In the international arena, the language of some Italian analysts is becoming increasingly aggressive. Luccio Caracciolo, editor of the magazine 'Limes', said that Kosovo is a "pseudo-state" run by drug and arms traffickers. Such positions, although they do not represent the official line of Italy, show that in Western strategic circles there is a fundamental change in the approach to Pristina. Now, voices like Caracciolo are not extremists, but part of the European "deep state".

The US in silence, Germany in waiting

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau clearly stated that the US does not deal with the internal quarrels of allies. Which means that for Washington, Kosovo is not a priority at the moment. Meanwhile, only the German ambassador has come out openly, while the Berlin government, once a protagonist in the overthrow of Hashim Thaçi's old structures, is today not showing any concrete will for a solution.

Bondsteel risk and the strategic issue

A US media report warned of the closure of several US military bases in Europe, including Bondsteel in Kosovo. Even if this does not happen immediately, the fact that it is being rumored is an indicator that Kosovo may no longer be a strategic part of the US priority. If this happens, Belgrade, Moscow and Beijing will rub their hands.

A missed opportunity for Kosovo

Albin Kurti should not have behaved like an opposition leader while in power. Kosovo does not have the luxury of endless crises. The failure to constitute institutions gives legitimacy to anti-Albanian narratives and de facto turns the country into an unmanageable reality. Every hour lost in the stalemate leads Kosovo towards the periphery of Western interests and into the center of the divisive plans of the great powers./ Pamphlet
