
The US Department of the Treasury has decided to assist the Albanian government in the development of the capital market in our country. This was announced during a meeting that the Minister of Finance and Economy, Ervin Mete, held with senior representatives of the US Treasury, namely Robert Burch, Senior Advisor, and Charles Anderson, Advisor.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the Office of Technical Assistance (OTA) of the US Department of the Treasury will provide expertise to the Albanian authorities also within the framework of the implementation of the action plan of the Policy Document "For the creation of an enabling environment for the development of capital markets in Albania, 2023-2027", approved in April 2023 by the Council of Ministers.
Minister Mete estimated that the technical support of the Technical Assistance Office will be important for the further development of the regulatory framework for capital markets in Albania.
For their part, OTA representatives expressed appreciation for the new legal framework of the capital markets, largely aligned with the European Directives, and expressed their readiness to offer their assistance.
Law 62/2020 "On Capital Markets" and the complete establishment of trading and post-trading infrastructure have created the conditions for the further development of capital markets.
In this context, the Policy Document sets out several main objectives for the development of this market, such as: increasing the participation of issuers, expanding the investor base and expanding the range of financial instruments, efficiency and transparency of the capital market, as well as the development of secondary market of Government Bonds.
The overall objective is to promote efficient capital markets by promoting the development of these markets and their effective supervision.
