
Over 198 million dollars per year, 16.5 million per month or about 550 thousand dollars per day. That's how much money Albania loses from climate change according to the accounts of the International Monetary Fund. Mainly in the form of fires, floods and earthquakes, almost 5 thousand Albanians are economically damaged by natural disasters every year.
"The latest report of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as studies by the Bank of Albania, show that 1 in 200 Albanians are at risk from climate change ," says researcher Asetila Kostinger.
In the latest report, on the economic perspective of developing countries, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development warned that the drought risks slowing down the country's economic growth.
