After reporting to the Assembly of the Competition Authority, the democratic deputy Jorida Tabaku criticized the institution that does not protect Albanians from monopolies and oligopolies but promotes them.
The democratic deputy and member of the Economy and Finance Committee addressed the Albanians, asking them who is the reason they pay more for mobile phones, food and insurance?
According to her, all this comes because the government does not do its duty and that the Competition Authority has lined up to do the work.
Below of Tabak:
The task of any independent institution, including the Competition Authority, is consumer protection. First, by offering the lowest prices in the market and ensuring competition for this to happen.
Second, making sure we have quality products. But how is this accomplished? Having markets with competition, allowing the main markets to not have 2 or 3 companies as it happens, prohibiting price collusion.
Is this happening? Is the Competition Authority performing its function? Today, from the basket products that come to our table to other services related to insurance, mobile phone, fuel, we have higher prices.
Because the Competition Authority and competition in the markets is not ensured, because companies make deals and there is no one there to protect the consumer.
The situation in the captured markets and in the most important sectors has turned into a cost today, not only for the tables of Albanians, but also for the prices in the most important sectors.
But if the Competition Authority and any other independent institution are not there to protect the interest of the consumer, what are they there for?
Today, Albanian consumers are paying higher prices, they are struggling in supermarkets, in insurance, in mobile phones and they are not receiving the service. This is the challenge I made to that institution and it remained unanswered
