The number of foreign exchange offices has been increasing from year to year, according to the data of the "Bank of Albania". During 2023, 52 new foreign exchange offices were licensed and the license of 14 existing offices was revoked. The data show that at the end of 2023, a total of 621 foreign exchange offices were operating. Last year recorded the highest number of foreign exchange offices since 2015.
Compared to last year, the number of foreign exchange offices licensed by the Bank of Albania is about 6.5% higher. The figures show that in 2022 a total of 583 foreign exchange offices were registered. Meanwhile, if we make the comparison in 2015, they see that their number in 2023 has increased by about 56.4%.
In 2023, the Bank of Albania licensed 1 electronic money institution and 1 non-bank financial entity for the exercise of the activity "Purchasing bad loans" and revoked the license of one entity at its request. Also, the Bank of Albania approved the exercise of additional financial activity (intermediary/insurance agent) of 1 bank and 1 non-bank financial entity. At the end of 2023, 39 non-bank financial entities (including microcredit financial institutions) and electronic money institutions were carrying out financial activities.
For non-bank financial entities and electronic money institutions, preliminary approvals were given for 9 administrators, 4 chairpersons of the supervisory council and 1 chairperson of the control committee. In 2023, preliminary approval was given for the reappointment of 1 administrator of the savings and credit company./Scan
