Now, to tell Voice of America and Radio Free Europe that they were censored, so they were shut down, is ignorance, but above all inferiority for not being critical of a crazy decision by the US president, who, as the former director general of VOA said, "no enemy of the US has done this harm."
I heard him yesterday commenting on the closure of Voice of America. He pretty much said it's a fight against state censorship.
As far as I know, for an American, the Voice of America is of no importance. Neither is “Free Europe”. They are radio stations that are not heard in the US and many Americans do not know they exist. They are radio stations that follow US policy in the world, based on professional operations and complete freedom of reporting, and they played a more than historic role in the Cold War, making the US a symbol of hope and survival under the communist dictatorship in the East.
Sali Berisha was a communist and may have never heard of Voice of America as a reactionary radio station, but at least he heard it from his anti-communist friends who did. At the time, it challenged the censorship of the dictatorship in Albania and later also the censorship of pluralism. At least he knows this very well.
I worked for both radio stations in the 90s and felt freer than at the Tema newspaper, which I own. I have never had censorship or self-censorship. Here in my business, I sometimes have self-censorship.
Now, to tell Voice of America and Radio Free Europe that they were censored, so they were shut down, is ignorance, but above all inferiority for not being critical of a crazy decision by the US president, who, as the former director general of VOA said, "no enemy of the US has done this harm."
But even more shameful is Berisha's silence as a Trumpist regarding the serious statements of President Trump's son, Trump Jr., who said that the bombing of Kosovo was orchestrated by Bill Clinton to cover up the Lewinsky scandal.
The statement, which, of course, does not represent American politics, but a member of the US presidential family, as they now conceive of power, is grave, untrue, unworthy and above all humiliating for the horrors of the Albanian people in Kosovo. (Not in the Middle East).
As for temporal coherence, the Lewinsky scandal broke out in late 1997 and ended with impeachment in January 1998, while the bombing of Serbia took place in March 1999. But that has little importance for what he said. That matters to those who have listened to him and are ready to take on any nonsense of Trump, since they have declared that Trump will save Berisha from isolation, from "non grata" and from successive defeats.
Now Berisha, in the wake of the idiotic excuses he makes for Trump's affairs, should come out and revise the history of Kosovo, saying that the bombing was a mistake, that it happened because of Lewinsky. He did the same for USAID, declaring Albanian USAID employees criminals, as if they were guilty because they collaborated with the American government. He called the "Voice of America" and "Radio Free Europe" censors just like Trump. Let him call Serbia a victim of Clinton's sex scandal with Lewinsky.
And to bring out Floriana Garon, she says with a face that lights up with a smile, in such cases.
