Mistakes will never cease to be anomalies in this formation because they have been ratified with the obedience of the law. PD-ist: What Berisha says is the Law and such is...
It is not that the developments of a few hours ago expected anything greater from the “Shqup”. The biggest place had been taken by the Kosovo impasse, the American-Iranian crap and oil. Except, on Thursday afternoon, the media chronicles had enough food from the opposition, initially seeing and commenting on Mr. Salianji’s representative who was not allowed to register and then Balliu and others. An unknown candidate remained in the race, perhaps even in front of most people in the DP, that of Mrs. Mereme Sela, an unknown figure to aspire to the post of mayor opposite Berisha, which implies that the process is simply routine! With his fine sarcasm, Mr. Spahiu, said something cynical but almost right: Rama can be more harassed than Mrs. Sela than Berisha. After all, not only part of his own party but also many people in the SP are comfortable with Berisha. The latter, in the end, deal with their problems and harass Mr. Berisha by keeping him on the battlefield. Except it's a different time. To think that Berisha once faced Gramoz Pashko, Eduart Selami, Azem Hajdari, Neritan Ceka, Genc Pollo and many others.
The attention of politicians has been drawn to the short deadline for registering candidacies, because from the publication of the decision to the submission of documents there was less than a full 24-hour day. It has been incomprehensible to the public, because the myth of its leader is (was) so great, since he has eliminated countless personalities from the ranks of this party who have sought to change its image, and not the candidates who seek to challenge it.
The grotesque of it all is that: Sali Berisha, who has held the helm of the DP alone and has described himself as the protagonist throughout its history, even when his deputy Lulzim Basha temporarily took over, will now face an almost non-existent candidate. This is now turning into a tragedy for this force, where Albanians still believe in its anemic inertia. Even if all three candidates vying for the position of president were to come together, they would not be able to beat Berisha to the DP. A mechanism will be found so that Berisha does not even get scratched (as Mr. Paloka, a senior DP official, said at the time, when he spoke about the manipulation of the elections for Basha, when he had to win necessarily, as an investment by Berisha).
Mistakes will never cease to be anomalies in this formation because they have been ratified with the obedience of the PD law: What Berisha says is the Law and that is how it is.
What an observer understands is that the last line that the DP can no longer cross is what happened on January 8, 2022 (when Berisha's supporters stormed the SHQUP building with Medieval means) or the Ghost of the event that is fanned sometimes as an individual, sometimes as psychology and always as a ghost. The DP is ours, woe to the one who touches it! They did not take that day, but "fate" would be with them. Berisha's so-called "Speech" did not manage to unite the party, even after June 11, 2024, when the Court of Appeal would pass the seal to Sali Berisha and this would be his last victory of ego. At that time, Alibeaj's group would disintegrate and most of the deputies would side with Berisha, the one who left nothing unsaid, especially the deputies known for their battles in parliament, Bardhi and Gjekmarkaj. Their image today is what is happening in the DP. The resistance fighters have already split, left, disillusioned, not to mention almost retired and forgotten, while Berisha, for whom tears were shed in his resignation after the 2013 defeat, returned. He has January 8 with him, the others do not even have access to it. So everyone sees their sadness and helplessness in front of 1 DP member.
After 13 years, fewer and fewer people follow Berisha because the democrats are disappointed, but more than that, Albanians are tired of the false protagonism, which is extending Mr. Rama's absolute power. The great political legacy that Albanians enjoyed with all their heart in the early 90s is now the greatest disappointment of democracy. In the DP they do not understand that: Democracy is not just doing what a minority wants, but you must also allow others to do and maintain democracy. This left the candidacy in front of Berisha (a character with no political CV and no standing for change) simply a number and a name that will be forgotten, but that could not do anything for the DP. Even if we also appreciate his courageous commitment, despite the conjunctures.
For others, the truth is known: The events of January 8 left not only the scars of violence and the basic culture of this party, but above all the great lack of reason and the democratic end of the DP. On April 30, 2026, with the registration process, only one of the consequences of January 8 appeared, while the pathology is greater. It is related to the loss of the spirit for which the DP was created. Even the most nostalgic cannot admit that: Berisha avoids even the competition with the most insignificant candidates to challenge him. After January 8, the DP is simply a party and not the great party of democratic values of the early days and the one we expect for change.
