Since 1991, Albania's population has gradually decreased. Meanwhile, the population of Tirana County has gradually increased year by year. And in a county whose population is growing every year, it is expected that participation in parliamentary elections will increase every four years. Even more so, since a prime minister who was criticized by the opposition has governed for 12 consecutive years…
But the old opposition parties (PD, LSI, PDIU, etc.), recently united in the Alliance for a Greater Albania, could not inspire an increase in participation in the Tirana Region. On the contrary, they opened a large electoral hole for themselves. Thus, counting only the votes here (without those from the diaspora), PD+LSI+PDIU+etc. received a full 60 thousand votes less than they had received in total in 2021 in the Tirana Region.
This deficit of 60,000 votes was partially covered by new right-wing or center-right parties. However, in the end, the number of votes here fell by 33,000 in total, compared to 2021.
This numerical analysis shows that the old opposition is running out of inspirational fuel to bring opposition voters to the polls. But will the new opposition, which has just begun to rev its engines, have the fuel in the future?
