The reason why they react more harshly towards Sali Berisha and Albin Kurti has a political explanation.
There is growing concern about the aggressiveness with which thousands of Albanians, especially from Kosovo, but also from Albania, are reacting to political leaders who welcomed the US attacks on Iran. In Kosovo, a flood of comments poured in against Albin Kurti, while after Sali Berisha's statement there are almost only negative comments.
The reason is not so much Albanians' concern about Iran. Of course, when it comes to Gaza, there is a part of society that is against what is happening from a humanitarian point of view, but when it comes to Iran's nuclear potential, there should be no discussion.
The reason why they react more harshly towards Sali Berisha and Albin Kurti has a political explanation.
First of all, it must be said that both Albin Kurti and Sali Berisha have the right positions on the attacks on Iran. They are politically correct and in line with pro-Western politics throughout the Albanian and Western space.
The problem is that they have been engaged in a political survival battle, sometimes open and sometimes cold, with the US for years, and their supporters have taken this battle seriously.
In Kosovo, Kurti's supporters see the US as an ally seeking to overthrow them from power, while Berisha's supporters in Albania have been living under the weight of being declared "non grata" and threatened with "bar" for four years, exposing themselves publicly and privately as haters of the US, which, according to them, has made life difficult for their leader.
So we are dealing with an electorate that has been doing "gymnastics" against the US for several years and is very prepared to react to anything related to it.
And if you investigate the profiles of the commentators, they are the same as those who attacked the US embassy in Tirana for its stances towards Berisha, or those who defend Kurti from Grenell or American officials who criticize his policies.
So, in a way, they are more than pro-Iranians angry with their political idols, who sometimes put them in a war with the US and sometimes come out in its favor. It just seems to them that the years of war against the US have been wasted and now they have suddenly turned into agitators for Iran against US attacks on it.
It is more or less how an Albanian Enverist feels when he sees that Agim Nesho, whose family was one of Enver Hoxha's most trusted families, is a pro-Trump right-winger and allied with Berisha.
This is the reason why they should not be taken seriously and should not be counted as an Albanian majority against the US. They are a frustrated political minority that does not constitute the majority of society nor represent its opinion.
They are simply a consequence of the policies of our leaders who find their stance towards the US insincere and their pro-Western policy unstable, except when it benefits them for power.
In short, they are the result of their mockery of their supporters, who treat them like sheep. And now, don't expect anything clever from them. But don't count them as pro-Iranians either. They are more disappointed with their idols.
