When his departures from the apartment due to sclerosis became frequent, and exactly when he realized that he was constantly looking for his father in Tirana in alarm, Virxili's daughter painfully decided to take him to the asylum. He often appeared there after he had cooked something for her and they drank coffee together in a neighborhood bar, next to the old people's home.
As soon as he looked at his daughter, his eyes were smiling. It was only when he looked at her that his dull gaze came to life. It was calm.
But he often forgot the name of his dear daughter, much had become like a blank and unwritten letter from his life. From the days of yesterday when he could, to today with nurses around.
For him there was only today that was dissolving into the fog.
Sometimes he came down and was found in the haunted yard at midnight in the middle of the music. Sometimes she cried and wanted to get over those walls of the nursing home. In the neighborhood where the asylum is located, residents point to the table where he sat with his daughter, who did not want to be absent on any of his father's days. He drank coffee with her, He held her hands tightly.
Then run away. In the battles of her life
In the asylum, meetings are always scheduled.
There had been a Vigil yesterday, before it was called the third age. Created a family. Worked in trade. Peaceful until the evening when his roommate, a well-known historian, attacked him in his sleep with a cane. It killed him. Even his killer, Zyhdi Sehi, an elderly man with health problems, unclear about what he did and full of contradictions in his confession. But he killed him. Two nurses, one with a degree in midwifery, tried to erase the scene, just as sclerosis erases what you lived through.
The nurses were arrested, because as in life and at the scene, even when there are no traces, it is read as a trace.
And among the question marks of this event, the suicide, I am bringing you the confession of a former employee in the old people's home. Many things remain to be confirmed, but above all the necessity and urgency for the relevant institutions to exercise control over the homes for the elderly, whether they are private, verifying from the food menu, medications, their treatment if it is humane or not
"I worked in this institution as a nurse. First of all, I want to share my regret for the former patient, who lost his life. I had a patient Jilin (as we called him in February). He was a gentleman who worked as a merchant for many years in the neighborhood where the asylum is located. A wise and kind person. He suffered from sclerosis and had no other accompanying diseases. He was not violent. His daughter often came to visit him in the afternoon and fed him. The patient often had problems sleeping at night and woke up. They found him in the yard at 3-4 o'clock in the morning, we found him in the kitchen or in other rooms. He often tried to leave the building.
But I want to point out first how the work works for the nurses: The morning shift has a maximum of 5-6 nurses who first feed the patients and distribute the medications and then change the patients' diapers and clothes. While in the evening there are only two nurses who check the capacity of the patient with 40 or more. We have often complained about this, to increase staff, but the owner has refused. The night shift is on the schedule: it starts at three in the afternoon and ends the next day at 7 in the morning, where the shift is handed over. The rule for the night shift is to check
the patients are struck every hour in three. The buildings are equipped with cameras where every part of the asylum is captured. Normally, the night shift is the most tiring shift and it is allowed for the nurses to sleep more than once, but there have been cases when the nurses (both) have been found sleeping during the night. This causes other incidents to happen during the night besides this tragedy. The building is divided into three parts where in all three patients are in a healthy state from the most serious with other accompanying diseases. As for the head nurse ZN M, she is a midwife by profession and does not have a license as a nurse. Other girls who were not licensed or insured also worked. The asylum is equipped with a doctor who usually comes in the morning to see the condition of the patients.
He is a responsible doctor. There is also a social worker in the asylum. In cases where problems arise with a patient with a serious mental condition, a neurologist is also called. In the building where the conditions and nurses' room is located, there is also a floor with problematic patients. They are even kept tied up during the day, but sometimes at night.
The patient who has changed lives lives one floor above the nurse's room. And I think that the nurses were asleep at the time the incident happened because otherwise the noises would have been heard and the shouting.
I also have some photos of the patients who have left me on the phone and their miserable condition. If you are interested I can send it to you. This is a photo of how they were kept connected during the day. This is located on the infirmary floor. And they were chosen at the time when family members came for lunch visits. But most of them meet in the lobby of the asylum.
That is, the nurses take the patients downstairs and meet there. After the meeting is over, they go up to the room again, because family members who have patients who walk on their own are not allowed to enter the rooms"....
