He had well understood that buying foreign influence with properties in tourism was the Achilles' heel to perpetuate his power and make it inviolable, and why not ensure another 3-4 mandates 'because there was no one to replaced'.
The repeated elections in Himara, irregular from the legal point of view, seem to have lowered the rhetoric from Greece, moreover they have ignored the position of Prime Minister Mitsotakis that we support 'a matter of principle and European values'. Today there are also diplomats who want to propose the turn that Greece should make because "it was not the Greek minority that was lost, but the very relations between the two countries".
The fear of losing everything, including Rama's favorable promises for the sea, pushes the thought to have a pragmatist policy, outside of principles and values, accepting that with Rama's narco-state an 'athletic stake' is established where corruption and clientelism olympic of Rama anything can be won. It is the same philosophy that the Washington Post recently declared about Rama's regime:- ...'his (Rama's) government has long been seen by Western authorities as plagued by corruption, and sees foreign investment as a means to increase its credibility.' So in a word, let's take advantage of everything from this situation, without spoiling the interests of the autocrat Rama.
Such attempts to create a rapprochement with Rama's corrupt and clientelistic regime shows that these far-sighted individuals have understood nothing of Rama's nationalist policies towards Greece, his rhetoric, why he needs them at certain times and why Rama can to use them again to justify the interests of the regime, the push that may come from his mentors or the anti-European projects with Vučić, where he is immersed headfirst and cannot detach himself from them.
But what was the battle for Himara to Rama?
Himara for Rama was a matter of honor and interest. He realized late that he was losing Himara to Beleri and went for an extreme scenario that would be against the interests of his power in the long run. Rama, as a painter and drawing teacher, was dedicated to giving Albania color, decorations and realizing the only thing he seemed to understand, tourism. He had divided Albania into separate parcels and together with his oligarchs sought to control every investment, which would enable him to maintain his power as long as possible.
For Rama, "this idiotic people" would find out later who had played the game: the Arabs, who served as a facade, had won, or Rama with his own. He is preparing the investments in Zvrnec, but his people are buying the properties. As for Sazan, he was "politically kind-hearted" to win the heart of a President, whom he described as "the shame of civilization", but in fact he was badly used by opponents who had promised him support. Himara is the jewel in the crown of the Albanian Riviera and he would manage it himself.
He had well understood that buying foreign influence with properties in tourism was the Achilles' heel to perpetuate his power and make it inviolable, and why not ensure another 3-4 mandates 'because there was no one to replaced'.
But Himara for Rama was also a matter of honor and respect for international actors, who always perceived him as a basketball player who does not take off his sneakers even in the most important international meetings, who drew his office when his people were more than half below the level of living income, that erected towers and skyscrapers for foreigners that his people were leaving the country in despair. He was today the personification of cronyism and the servant to turn his country into a septic tank and social bomb by offering himself to collect immigrants from all over the world coming to Europe, to deposit Syrian chemical weapons and anything else he could. to ask in exchange for turning a blind eye to the establishment of a dictatorial power in Albania.
He wanted to be an actor but reality did not allow him. He remained a Janissary soldier for Erdogan to fight Feto and increase neo-Ottoman influence in Albania; a complete vassal of the Serbs who misused Vučić for his Serbo-Russian projects for Balkan domination; a shirtless man Meloni checks the diapers under his black panties, forcing him to chew on his statements that 'he would not allow Albania to turn into a refugee camp for other countries'.
But he would not allow Greece to play with his interests. Moreover, he had given everything to the Greeks. He was the first to come out in favor of extending the territorial sea to 12 miles and was ready to approach any possibility for Greece to benefit from the exclusive economic zones without thinking about Albania's interests, he immediately decided that the sea issue should go to the International Court of Justice without thinking for the consequences, etc.
But from the Greeks he had seen a total neglect of his abilities. He could not forget the surprising and contemptuous manner of the Greeks when he offered himself to be a sort of negotiator in the Greece-Turkey conflict. He could not forget that the Greeks did not give him anything from the demands of the Albanian side to normalize relations and solve the problems (Kotzias - Bushati), but left him alone with the possibility to reconsider the absurd law of war, which for the Greeks themselves was ridiculous.
But many naive people in Albania, excluding the patronageists who have mushroomed after the rain, believed that the battle for Himara was a patriotic issue for Rama. But they forgot that Rama, with just one article in the Financial Times, gave Serbia thousands of square meters of Albanian land, calling the north of Kosovo 'no man's land', erecting the Mitsotakis monument in Dropull, making the Minister of Defense a citizen Greek or put a trusted minority as his candidate in Himare. Patriotism remains the property of the leader and not the eunuchs he tramples underfoot.
The whole battle for Himara was just a battle for his interests. But you haven't seen anything yet. But will the Albanian people allow this corrupt corrupt regime to further destroy Albania's interests? The solution is clear: civil disobedience, technical government, free and fair monitored elections and the restoration of political pluralism in the country.
