It's fighting the race, not the candidates in the race.
Berisha

By eliminating competition as an institution, Berisha hopes to seamlessly extend his mandate as leader of the opposition Democratic Party of Albania (DP) until he has the physical means and people to keep the political structure functioning.

The wave of expulsions from the DP touched Elbasan today. It could have gone to Korça or Vlora, since there are also many "enemies" there, but in Elbasan there was a candidate who claimed to enter the race. It is not that Sali Berisha would risk it if he entered the race. Neither Ervin Salianji, nor Belind Këlliçi, nor Evi Kokalari, nor anyone else, under these conditions, really risks it. And he knows this well.

He doesn't have a problem with the candidates; his problem is the idea of the race itself. And he's essentially fighting the race, not the candidates in the race.

This is why the wave of exclusions went to Elbasan. Now, after the "self-exclusion" of Salianj, Balli and Kokalari, he is calmer. At least he is calm that there will be no competition, since its absence becomes a habit and then repeats itself.

By eliminating competition as an institution, Berisha hopes to seamlessly extend his mandate as leader of the opposition Democratic Party of Albania (DP) until he has the physical means and people to keep the political structure functioning.

Therefore, the confrontation with Berisha should not be purely political. Legal initiatives should be taken against him. Someone should go to the Tirana Court and file a request for the invalidity of the race in the DP, since, according to the statute (the article known as the “Basha article”), he cannot run.

It is true that many people do not trust his enforcement of court decisions, but in conditions where he prevents rivals from entering the race without the law, there is a real basis for challenging him legally. And this must be done. Since he is fighting the race without the law, they must fight his self-candidateship legally.

The Tirana Court has an obligation to express its opinion on the legality of such a process, sanctioned in the statute, beyond any claim about the quality of the elections.

By using a legal mechanism in the face of someone who excludes rivals without legal basis, a political movement can be produced that unites more people than the individual ambitions of the candidates.

So, a process must be initiated to establish legitimacy in the DP as a party that functions on the basis of its statute—exactly what Berisha himself promised in the battle against Lulzim Basha. Only by uniting around a cause broader than individual competition can a more sustainable spirit be created against the illegality and usurpation of the party.
